DDC – is a certified Defensive Driving Course owned by the Automobile Associations 'AA Driver Training'. The course is designed to increase driver awareness.
The DDC forms part of the Graduated Driver Licensing System and is approved by the New Zealand Transport Authority, NZTA.
Completing this DDC course reduces the time required on a restricted license before sitting the full license test.
The course is conducted in our air conditioned training suite located in Narrow Neck (between Takapuna and Devonport,
near Belmont and Bayswater) on Aucklands North Shore by company director Sharon.
Sharon is licenced by AA Driver Training to deliver The New Zealand Defensive Driving Course.
The Defensive Driving Course is made up of four 2 hour theory classroom sessions normally held on the first and second Tuesday and Thursday each month and
includes the loan of an interactive practice CD-Rom. The fifth and final session is an in-car assessment of up to 1 hour duration in your own car.
The course cannot be completed in less than 10 days and all sessions must be attended in order. If you miss a session you can continue on the next course.
To start the course, you must hold your restricted licence (for at least 6 months
if aged under 25) or hold a full drivers licence.
After completing the Defensive Driving Course, restricted licence holders can obtain the full licence 12 months after restricted licence issue date (3 months if aged 25 or over).
You will develop the skills needed to be a more aware driver on the road. The three key driving skills are:
• Searching (eye scanning)
• Assessing (hazard identification)
• Reducing risk (risk management)
You will learn about significant factors leading to car crashes including:
• Inattention
• Emotions
• Driving conditions
• Drugs and alcohol
• Peer pressure
In total, it takes just nine hours of your time to complete the course.
Complete course costs $175.00 including gst.
