You have to be at least 16 years old to apply for a car driver licence and you must hold a learner licence before you start learning to drive. It’s all about keeping you and other road users safe as you gain driving skills and experience.

Getting your car licence is a 3 step process

Step 1: Sit learner licence theory test

Step 2: After holding the learners license for at least 6 months, sit the restricted licence practical test

Step 3: After a minimum of 6 months if over 25, 18 months or 12 months with an approved driving skill course, sit the practical full licence test
